FIRTS CIRCULAR

Dear colleagues,
We are pleased to inform you that the 16th International Congress of Turkish Art will be held from October 3 to October 5 2019 in Ankara, at the Hacettepe University. It is an honor for us to organize it in Ankara, where the first Congress took place in October 1959, initiated by late Prof. Dr. Suut Kemal Yetkin, who was also the founder of the Art History Department at the Hacettepe University. Below, you will find the research fields and themes (grouped under four headings), that were chosen by the International and National Committee members to be discussed by the participants. The topics follow the traditional fields of the previous congresses, except for a new section specifically devoted to Ankara and Turkish art.

The languages of the 16th International Congress of Turkish Art will be Turkish and English. The presentations should not exceed 20 minutes in duration. We will try to have a simultaneous translation system, or the Turkish/English translations of the papers will be concurrently shown on the screen via a second projector.

We kindly ask the applicants to send their abstracts (600-800 words) related to one of the above provided topics until October 3, 2018 to: icta16@hacettepe.edu.tr. The abstracts should be written both in Turkish and English, and submitted in PDF format in two copies, one with the name of the applicant, the other without (for blind review). In line with the previous congresses, the anonymous abstracts will be evaluated by both the International and National committee members. Those submitting abstracts will be informed of the evaluation results in late November, 2018. For the sake of a thorough and fair evaluation, the Committee urges the applicants to write their abstracts to cover the following list of headings:

a. Title
b. The content and aim of the paper
c. A brief overview of relevant literature
d. The main argument of the paper
e. A note providing the relevant heading (or subheading) of the above topic groups
f. Four keywords

All participants will be charged the registration fee of 500.00 Turkish Liras (free for students) once their papers have been accepted. Details about the payment methods will be given in the Second Circular.
Travel and accommodation costs will be paid by the participants. A list of recommended hotels and other accommodation venues, to be contacted directly by the participants, will be enclosed to the Second Circular. The applications should be sent to icta16@hacettepe.edu.tr, to be forwarded to the members of the International Committee for evaluation.

We are looking forward to welcoming you all to the Congress in Ankara in October 2019.
